Whether you choose your wardrobe for the season or for the way it looks, one thing to consider is to purchase with an eye towards quality.

Why Should You be Picky?

They say clothes make the man (or woman!) and this can be true in two ways.

First is the way your clothes make you feel. Regardless of how much your clothes cost, a well-curated wardrobe can bolster your confidence and enhance the way you look. Second, the impression you make on other people can be influenced by how you present yourself. As much as you may prefer to be judged on your personality and professional capacity, the way you look does influence how well people think of you.

Getting Premium Items

The average person would not spend too much on clothing. On average, you may look at a department store find and say “This will do.” Consider, however, the previous point regarding how clothes can make you feel. While most stylists would not recommend that their clients splurge on their wardrobes, they would encourage you to spend wisely on specific items. What these are may vary from person to person. In general, however, these quality items should be ones that:

  • You will wear often
  • Fit you well (they make you look and feel good)
  • Can take you from season to season

High-quality cashmere scarves and wraps, for example, make great investment pieces. They can be used to complete most outfits—bold ones can even provide a statement focal point—and, when it’s cold, provide warmth.

Know Who You Are

Consider, first, the clothing style you wish to wear. Collect images that draw your attention and build your wardrobe from there. Building up from basics—a good chance to choose the quality pieces you need!—will then help you better express the specific style you want and, in turn, allow those you meet to get a better idea of who you are.
